Well, this should speed up the assimilation process…
Over the course of the past year, Europe has entered an experiment of a massive scale when it comes to refugee resettlement. Some might call it a noble experiment – but it’s been just as unsuccessful as you’d expect.
Germany has been the most welcoming to refugees, perhaps because the German people still feel immense guilt over Naziism. On the other hand, they’re welcoming in millions of people that come from a part of the world that isn’t particularly kind towards the Jewish people, so they’re not compensating for that guilt in the best way, are they?
Regardless, the problems have been obvious. The overwhelming majority of refugees aren’t working, take public assistance, and hundreds of thousands have committed crimes. Above all, they tend to live in their own cultural enclaves, refusing to assimilate into Western society. This is a formula making them ripe for radicalization.
Many in Germany have realized their mistake, but they’ve crossed the point of no return. Other countries are taking note, and Austria is taking extreme measures to force assimilation: by banning Arabic.
As the Conservative Post reported:
Austria has just made a new law:
Muslim imams will no longer be able to conduct their sermons in Arabic, but in German; all Korans will now have to be written completely in German, and Muslim groups will no longer be able to accept foreign money.
The updated “Law on Islam,” which was prepared by the coalition of the Social Democratic Party and the People’s Party, aims to regulate how Islam is managed inside the country, and includes provisions requiring imams to be able to speak German, standardizing the Quran in the German language, and banning Islamic organizations from receiving foreign funding.
And Erdogan is outraged realizing that without reading the Quran in Arabic, Islam becomes invalid since Muslims cannot worship Allah without using the Arabic as required in the Quran.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan strongly criticized Austria on Feb. 28 for approving a controversial bill that revises the status of Muslims in the European country.
Well, it’s about time.
America has always been a nation of immigrants – but that’s because we’re a melting pot, not a mixing bowl. We always realized that there’s nothing wrong with immigrants and their culture, but they must assimilate into a broader American culture. You can’t coexist with those who share opposing values.
Europe historically hasn’t had the same philosophy towards immigrants. They truly jumped the gun when it came to mass Muslim migration, and are now dealing with the problems associated with the cultural conflict. What Austria is doing is a step in the right direction, but will other nations follow? We can only hope.
